DEMO Festival showcases motion designers from all over the world on 5000 screens for 24 hours in the public space in the Netherlands,. It aims to intrigue, inspire and create a lasting experience. Offering a break from commercial messages and transforming the public space into a living gallery. Being part of it was a great honor for me, especially for sharing the same space with so many talented artists that I follow and admire.
The piece and it’s variations explore a theme I’m very passioned about: Dithering. It’s a digital proces that aims to reduce the file size of an image and to do so it has to trick our perception so our brain completes the image with the least information possible. It does so by comparing pixel by pixel with a pattern of values, if the current pixel is higher or lower than the current value on the pattern it’s being compared to it will show as black or white. So I wondered: what if that pattern changes over time? What kind of image appears? Well, as you can see, what emereges it’s a glitchy pixel motion
