Somi

Your Atlas of the Night

We spend between 20 and 28 years of our lives sleeping, and 4 to 6 years actively dreaming. Although research confirms that dreams are deeply linked to our emotional well-being, current tracking tools focus almost exclusively on biometric data. When they attempt to address qualitative content, they do so through generic metrics that fail to capture its true value.

Somi seeks to enhance well-being and self-discovery by delivering actionable data through the habit of dream journaling. The goal is to bridge the gap between a fleeting memory and a permanent insight, transforming the classic text diary into a living tool that adapts to different user archetypes.

Research revealed that the biggest challenge occurs upon waking up: we face cognitive overload, grogginess, and dreams evaporate in minutes. To overcome this barrier, I designed a frictionless capture flow. The nocturnal interface is grounded in the psychology of emotions and psychoanalysis, projecting an experimental, ethereal, and timeless visual identity.

The project evolved iteratively from initial wireframes to a 100% functional prototype. By integrating Next.js, D3.js, and the Gemini API, I built an interactive semantic map. This allowed me to solve the core UX challenge: enabling the user to log their nighttime narratives and visualize their complexity in the simplest way possible.
